Birds, Butterflies & Other Garden Visitors

Morarchs Feasting on a Meadow Blazingstar

At Wildflower Farm we have more than just flowers in the garden.  Our native gardens provide supreme habitat and food for the local wildlife.  We are always hosting a diversity of birds, butterflies, and the occasional amphibian or mammal (particularly Gardenis nativorous) .

An event you surely don’t want to miss is the Monarch Migration.  Wildflower Farm is a Monarch Waystation and every year hosts thousands of Monarchs late July – August.  It truly is a spectacular event not to be missed.  To see where the Monarchs are now click on the Monarch Migration Map.

The goldfinches are in full colour and making themselves quite at home.  We’ve also noticed our resident bluebirds helping themselves to some tasty garden bugs.

May 10

Whooping Cranes were seen above the farm.  At one point we thought they were going to land in our field of Little Blue Stem Grass but they caught a thermal and up they went.  We could hear their distinctive whooping from quite a distance.

Painted Lady Butterfly

During our Mother’s Day Tea Party, Bruce snapped a photo of a lovely painted lady butterfly fluttering around in the pussy toes.  The first one we’ve seen of the season.

Bruce caught a quick peak at a doe admiring our scree garden on Earth Day.
