Compassplant - Silphium
laciniatum
This unusual plant has fleshy,
deeply divided leaves that often orient
themselves in a north-south direction, thus the
name Compassplant. Slow-growing but extremely
long-living, it develops a tremendous taproot.
Well developed plants may have up to one hundred
large yellow flowers that open over a month long
period. The nutritious seeds are widely used by
birds.

GERMINATION INFO |
Cold, moist
stratification. Mix seed with moist but
not wet, sterile growing medium. Place
mixture in a labeled, sealed plastic bag
and store in refridgerator for six to
eight weeks. Note: Some seed may
germinate in the storage bag if moist
stratified too long. If sprouting occurs,
plant immediately. Another method is to
sow seed outdoors in late autumn so that
they may overwinter.
Approx. 20 seeds per pack
