Nodding Wild Onion - Allium cernuum
This very attractive low-growing wildflower is one of the most widespread of the native onions. Its diverse natural distribution shows the versatility of its growing requirements. This short plant blooms from late June through to mid August and produces globes of white bell-shaped flowers that turn pink as they mature. It does best in medium to slightly moist, rich soils where it multiplies readily, although it can tolerant dry soils. Plant it in masses for a stunning effect!

SEED GERMINATION INFO Seed needs scarification. Rub seed between two sheets of sandpaper to scrape the seed coat - stop if seeds are being crushed. Then mix seed with moist but not wet, sterile growing medium. Place mixture in a labeled, sealed plastic bag and store in refridgerator for six to eight weeks. Note: Some seed may germinate in the storage bag if moist stratified too long. If sprouting occurs, plant immediately. Another method is to sow seed outdoors in late autumn so that they may overwinter.
