This native plant looks quite
exotic as its large leaves give it a feathery
appearance from a distance. Birds love this plant
as it provides them shelter while the large
chocolate colored seeds offer up a nutritious
meal. Blooming with bright yellow flowers in July
and August, the golden tones are repeated in the
fall as the foliage turns colour. Grows best in a
moist, sandy loam soil.
SEED
GERMINATION INFO
Cold, moist
stratification. Mix seed with moist but
not wet, sterile growing medium. Place
mixture in a labeled, sealed plastic bag
and store in refridgerator for six to
eight weeks. Note: Some seed may
germinate in the storage bag if moist
stratified too long. If sprouting occurs,
plant immediately. Another method is to
sow seed outdoors in late autumn so that
they may overwinter. Approx. 1,400 seeds per oz.
