Downy Sunflower - Helianthus mollis
Spreading by rhizomes, this tough sunflower forms dense colonies in the poor dry or stony soils where it naturally occurs. This rarely seen sunflower has soft, gray-green leaves and produces an abundance of large, buttercup-yellow flowers in the late summer. Its strong stems serve as perches for the goldfinches that flock to eat the seeds which are highly prized by many other birds as well.

SEED GERMINATION INFO Cold, moist stratification. Mix seed with moist but not wet, sterile growing medium. Place mixture in a labeled, sealed plastic bag and store in refridgerator for six to eight weeks. Note: Some seed may germinate in the storage bag if moist stratified too long. If sprouting occurs, plant immediately. Another method is to sow seed outdoors in late autumn so that they may overwinter.
Approx. 50 seeds per pack
