A springtime favorite, Wild Lupines
dense spires of deep blue flowers are arranged on
upright spikes. Requiring a dry, well-drained
sandy or gravelly soil in full sun, established
plants greatly resent being transplanted and
cannot tolerate any soil but dry, sand.
Caterpillars of the endangered Karner Blue
butterfly feed exclusively on the Wild Lupine.
SEED
GERMINATION INFO
Seed needs
scarification. Rub seed between two
sheets of sandpaper to scrape the seed
coat - stop if seeds are being crushed.
Then mix seed with moist but not wet,
sterile growing medium. Place mixture in
a labeled, sealed plastic bag and store
in refridgerator for six to eight weeks.
Note: Some seed may germinate in the
storage bag if moist stratified too long.
If sprouting occurs, plant immediately.
Another method is to sow seed outdoors in
late autumn so that they may
overwinter. Approx. 1,000 seeds per oz. - 25 seeds per pack
