Are You Dreaming of a Wildflower Meadow?
Creating a successful wildflower meadow is simple. To start, grab a shovel and head out to your future meadow site. Dig a small hole and grab a handful of the earth. Squeeze your handful tightly and then open your hand. If the soil falls apart quickly, you've got sand. If it stays together in a ball, you've got clay. If it feels soft and crumbly and is easy to work then you have loam. Now you know your soil type.
Have a look around. Is it a sunny open area? Or is it part shaded? Next, measure the length and width of the area you wish to seed. Multiply length x width to get the total square feet (or meters).
Now that you know your soil type, sunlight conditions and the size of the meadow you want to create have a look at the seed mixes listed below and pick the mix that is best suited for your property! Please be sure to check out the step-by-step instructions in our
How to Grow a Meadow
pages too.
You may notice that we don’t offer “pollinator mixes” or “butterfly mixes” and there’s a good reason for that. Every seed mix we carry is a pollinator mix! All wildflowers attract butterflies and on top of that, they provide food and habitat for a whole host of other beneficial insects that aren’t necessarily pollinators but provide invaluable ecosystem services. So choose your meadow mix based on the site conditions of your property. Your meadow will flourish and the pollinators and butterflies will come to you naturally!
Do you have something in mind that you do not see here? We are happy to help! We can create a custom seed mix that is specifically designed for your site conditions, budget and desires. For your custom seed mix quote email us at
